Implementation of a coordination centre within the Citadelle Hospital of Liège

Implementation of A-CDM is an important step in the realisation of data-sharing among airport partners. It is the basis for mutual trust and further collaborative engagements that will increase airport performance.

The Airport Operations Centre is the operational nerve centre of the airport. One of the main challenges in this type of a project is ensuring pro-active collaboration between internal and external stakeholders.

The AOP is the key to unlock transversal coordination and optimisation of all airport processes and to improve overall airport performance. With targeted modules and advanced technologies, efficient resource usage is guaranteed long before the actual day of operations.

At Brussels Airport, the introduction of new technologies and adaptations in security legislation had seriously impacted the throughput. A structured approach was applied to revise the process, with clear results: increased throughput, cost reductions and increased passenger and staff experience.

Unpredictability of flight schedules and seat load factors during the COVID pandemic have made resource forecasting and planning incredibly difficult. With its AOP, Brussels Airport was able to develop a means to still reach demand forecasts with an accuracy of 86%.

All 3 runways at Brussels Airport were renovated in 2015, 2016 and 2020 on time and within budget with minimal operational impact. The renovation of these critical assets ensured they could be operated safely in the future. Obviously, each renovation had a significant impact on the airport’s operations so a close collaboration with the impacted stakeholders was crucial for the final delivery of the project.

2 aprons at Brussels Airport were renovated between 2018 and 2021 on time and within budget with minimal operational impact. Both aprons are used in daily operations, so the phasing of the works was established in close collaboration with the operational stakeholders. Apron 9 specifically is used for the cargo airlines which resulted in specific requirements of both the final solution and the mitigating measures during the works.

As part of the asset management lifecycle at Brussels Airport, there are yearly taxiway renovation projects happening. These renovations ensured future operations could continue to happen in a safely manner. Detailed assessment of each taxiway section and its operational importance was crucial in determining the approach of the renovation.

Runway renovations fall into the category of high-complexity construction projects. Since they are the key asset of an airport and often need to be available 24/7, these projects typically have very stringent time and quality targets, and any unexpected deviation of the plan must be addressed diligently to meet them.

The execution of large-scale emergency response simulations is critical to test and evaluate the response of the airport and other stakeholders’ emergency teams in case of incidents and accidents. With these exercises, we can ensure emergency teams play their role in a controlled environment.

Our task was to find and evaluate the most modern and secure technologies out there to keep the perimeter of the airport safe.

A major Belgian First Division football club tasked us to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the security provided by its facilities. The assignment included the formulation of recommendations to improve security levels, including several short-term actions (quick-wins) to improve the security levels in a very short period of time and with limited budget.
